What Types Of Trimming Are There For Silicone O-rings?
Oct 02, 2023
The application of silicone O-rings is of great significance in many industries, so ensuring the basic production quality of silicone O-rings is a very critical issue, especially for the trimming work of silicone O-rings.
The silicone O-ring becomes a viscous fluid under high temperature and pressure. However, during the molding and vulcanization stage, the rubber material quickly fills the mold cavity, and the excess part overflows and vulcanizes, forming flash. Once flash is formed, it needs to be cleaned in order to make the appearance neat and beautiful. Generally speaking, the trimming work of silicone O-rings mainly includes the following three categories:
1. Manual trimming. The operator holds the tool and gradually removes the overflow along the outer edge of the product. This method requires a high level of operator skills, so sometimes the work efficiency is relatively low. Once the technology is not in place, it is easy to leave gaps and tooth marks.
2. Mechanical trimming. The most common one is a special electric trimmer with a rotating blade; the blade used needs to be highly matched to the size of the product. If the product has overflow on both the inner and outer edges, it can be designed with double or multiple edges to achieve one-time completion.
3. Freeze trimming. The vulcanized finished product together with the waste edges are removed under freezing conditions.
It can also be seen from the above-mentioned silicone O-ring trimming work that the development of the industry is upgrading with the continuous advancement of science and technology. In the future development, it will also show more diversified development.
