Precautions For Installing The O-ring

Sep 25, 2019

The precautions for installing the O-ring are as follows:

(1) Before the installation, the visual inspection shall be carried out first, and the surface shall be free of defects such as flash burrs, impurities, dust and scratches, and the cross-sectional diameter shall be uniform;

(2) Apply hydraulic oil or grease before installation;

(3) Prevent twisting or folding and lifting when installing. Also prevent the appliance from being scratched.

(4) The section diameter compression of the o-ring installation accounts for 5% to 3.5% of (δ1+δ2), which is used for the fixed seal to obtain a large value, and is used for the active seal to take a small value.

(5) When installing, first consider the hardness of the o-ring to prevent the squeezed person from sealing the gap. According to the sealing gap and working pressure, select the hardness of the appropriate o-ring. The rubber hardness should vary with the working pressure and the gap size. The pressure is high, the hardness should be slightly larger when the gap is large, and vice versa.

(6) To prevent bumps during the installation process, first use the 锉 to sharpen the sharp burrs or pour them into over-chamfering. The thread and the surface of the keyway are covered with tape and then installed to protect the o-ring.

(7) O-rings should be protected from contact with acidic and alkaline substances during storage before installation to prevent deformation and result in poor sealing.
