The Performance And Raw Material Selection Of O-shaped Rubber Sealing Ring

(1) The performance of the O-ring rubber seal

O-shaped rubber sealing ring is widely used in various mechanical equipment, and plays a sealing role in different temperatures, pressures and media to prevent oil leakage, air leakage of mechanical equipment and the intrusion of external environmental media and dust. Compared with other rubber seals, O-ring rubber has the following advantages:

(1) The structure is simple, the volume is small, and the installation part is compact;

(2) It has a self-sealing effect without periodic adjustment;

(3) Good sealing performance, no leakage during static sealing;

(4) The frictional resistance of motion is small, which is suitable for occasions where the pressure is alternating;

(5) The size and groove have been standardized, the price is cheap, the product is easy to obtain, and it is easy to use and purchase;

(6) Strong adaptability and wide range of uses.

O-rings also have disadvantages compared to their seals:

(1) When used to compress the dynamic seal, the starting frictional resistance is large;

(2) It is difficult to prevent leakage during dynamic sealing, and the leakage can only be controlled to not exceed the specified allowable value;

(3) When used in some occasions, it is often necessary to install protective retaining rings and dust-proof rings. In the process of air pressure and water pressure sealing, lubricating oil needs to be added to prevent wear;

(4) The processing size and accuracy of coupling accessories (such as moving surfaces, grooves, gaps, etc.) are strict.

 (2) Raw material selection of O-shaped rubber sealing ring

The material for making O-ring rubber seals is mainly synthetic rubber. Depending on the working temperature, contact medium, and pressure, the selection of rubber types is also different. For example, at room temperature, in non-polar or weakly polar oils and solvent media, nitrile rubber can be selected; if high-temperature oil is required, fluororubber and acrylate rubber should be considered; and high-temperature air is required , you can choose silicone rubber. Ethylene-propylene rubber is mainly used for seals in contact with phosphate ester, acid, alkali and other media.
