The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Different Rubber Products

Oct 27, 2021

Rubber is an elastic, insulating, air-tight, and air-tight material made by extracting the latex of rubber trees, rubber grass, and other plants after processing.

1. Natural rubber: It is made of latex collected from the rubber trees. It is a polymer of isoprene. It has good abrasion resistance, elasticity is easy to age in the air, and is easy to swell and dissolve in mineral oil or gasoline. Advantages: good elasticity, acid, and alkali resistance; Disadvantages: not weatherable and oil-resistant.

2. Styrene-butadiene rubber: a copolymer of butadiene and styrene. Compared with natural rubber, it has uniform quality, less foreign matter, and has better abrasion resistance and aging resistance. Advantages: low cost, good water resistance; Disadvantages: it is not recommended to use strong acids, ozone, and most of the hydrocarbons.

3. Butyl rubber: It is formed by polymerization of isobutylene and a small amount of isoprene. The general temperature range is -54~110°C. Advantages: impermeable to most general gases, good resistance to sunlight and ozone; Disadvantages: it is not recommended to use petroleum solvents, kerosene, and aromatic hydrogen at the same time.

Four: hydrogenated nitrile rubber: part of the double-stranded nitrile rubber is removed by hydrogenation. After hydrogenation, the temperature resistance and weather resistance are much higher than that of ordinary nitrile rubber. The general use temperature is -25~150°C. Advantages: It has better abrasion resistance, tensile strength, corrosion resistance, and other characteristics; Disadvantages: It is not recommended to be used in the air conditioning and refrigeration industry in alcohols and other solutions.

Five: Ethylene-propylene rubber: It is made by copolymerization of ethylene and propylene. It has excellent heat resistance, aging resistance, and ozone resistance. Advantages: good weather resistance and ozone resistance, high-temperature resistance; disadvantages: not recommended for food use or exposure to aromatic hydrogen.

Six: Nitrile rubber: copolymerized by acrylonitrile and butadiene. Advantages: oil resistance, water resistance, solvent resistance, and high-pressure oil resistance, with good compressibility, abrasion resistance, and elongation; disadvantages: not suitable for use in polar solvents.

7. Neoprene: It is made by polymerization of chloroprene monomer. Advantages: good elasticity and good compression deformation, with the characteristics of resistance to animal and vegetable oil; disadvantages: it is not recommended to use strong acids and other chemicals.
