Factors To Consider When Selecting The Specifications Of The Rubber O-ring
Sep 05, 2019
When selecting O-ring specifications, first determine the material of the O-ring. Currently in industrial parts, the O-ring material in life is NBR nitrile rubber, NR natural rubber, CR neoprene, EPDM EPDM rubber. HNBR hydrogenated nitrile rubber, SILICOME silica gel, FKM, VITON, fluororubber, FLS silicone rubber, PU polyurethane, SBR styrene butadiene rubber, Buna butadiene rubber, acrylate rubber ACM, PTFE, polytetrafluoroethylene and so on. The above materials have their respective destinations and uses, oil resistant, chemical resistant, high temperature resistant, wear resistant and so on. Therefore, when choosing the O-ring specification, you must know where the product is used, what needs to be resistant, what role it plays, and the service life, so that you can choose the O-ring material you need.
The O-ring size is expressed by the outer diameter, inner diameter, and wire diameter. As long as the inner diameter and wire diameter are indicated on our drawings, the outer diameter is equal to the inner diameter + 2 * wire diameter. Or just mark the outer diameter and wire diameter. There is one option for both.
O-ring specification tolerances mainly include tolerances for inner diameter and tolerances for wire diameter. O-ring specification tolerances are mainly determined by the size of the size. The larger the size, the greater the tolerance. O-ring tolerances such as an internal diameter of 0.05 to 1.79 mm are +/- 0.10 MM, and O-ring tolerances of 0.05 to 1.79 MM are +/- 0.07 MM.
The amount of compression is important when selecting the O-ring size, because the selection is not correct, it will not seal when the product is assembled, otherwise it will be too tight when assembled, so it does not play the required role of the product. Then how do we correctly choose the compression amount of the O-ring specification? Let us give you a reference: the compression of the O-ring is generally determined mainly by the hardness and material of the O-ring. If the hardness of the O-ring is 70 degrees, Then the amount of compression of the O-ring is equal to 20%. Of course, the lower the hardness of the O-ring, the greater the compression of the O-ring, which is mainly used in low pressure places. The higher the hardness of the O-ring, the smaller the compression of the O-ring, and it is mainly used in environments with high pressure, pressure resistance and low resistance. By analogy, you can get the compression of any hardness O-ring you need.
